On Doordash, one of the opportunities that you can make money is by referring your friends and family to drive for Doordash as well.
However, there is a lot of information that isn't talked about enough on this subject.
So in this article, We are talking about:
EVERYTHING You MUST Know about the Refer-a-Friend Program
What they tell you vs how it ACTUALLY is
Everything in Between!

Doordash: How Do I Refer Other Dashers?
This page will cover frequently asked questions surrounding the Referrals program, such as how to access the page, how to send referral links, and tracking delivery progress and bonus payout.
How do I access the Referrals page?
Referral bonuses are refreshed weekly and may vary by geographic location. To see if a referral bonus is currently available in your area, click on the “Promos” button on the Dash tab or navigate to the Account tab. If there is a live referral bonus, a "Refer a friend to dash!" banner will appear at the top of the screen. Clicking into it will show the bonus amount you'd each receive if the person you refer completes the required number of deliveries in the given timeframe. To send a referral link, click the icon on the banner at the bottom, or simply tap on the link to copy the url to your clipboard.
Of course there is no real limit to how many people you can refer just as long as the referral bonus program is active.
Doordash: How do I know if my friend has successfully been referred?
To successfully accept your referral, your friend must be a new Dasher (has never created a Dasher account), and must start signing up to be a Dasher using your unique link.
If eligible to be referred, your friend will see a blue banner at the top of their signup page and throughout their application process. To start dashing toward the referral bonus, your friend must successfully complete onboarding to become a Dasher. Referral offers are refreshed weekly and are subject to change, so timeliness is encouraged to make sure your offer is locked in.
Once activated, you and your friend will earn bonuses once they’ve completed the required number of deliveries in their area, within the timeframe specified in their offer.
Not to mention, there have been times where people have used the link and the referral program dropped significantly or just didn't register at all because Doordash didn't want to register and they didn't want to pay you the money...
Which is a very Doordash thing for them to do but it's good to know now they've actually made it clear, hey you've been referred and now you know whether or not you can do it
Doordash: I am unable to refer others currently. When will I be able to refer friends?
Dashers in good standing who have completed 30 deliveries and have been dashing for at least 30 days, who have also passed our quality checks will be eligible to refer friends and family to dash. Quality checks are done to ensure a Dasher is in good standing (ie Dasher is not sharing accounts, not engaging in fraud, and has not been flagged for suspicious behavior or incomplete deliveries while Dashing). Referral eligibility is reviewed periodically by our team. Referral bonuses are refreshed weekly and may vary by geographic location. Sometimes, there may not be an active referral offer in your area, but rest assured we will let you know when there’s a new referral opportunity available to you!
In short, you need to be in good standing on the platform for 30 days, be relatively active on the platform with a minimum of 30 deliveries, that is at least one a day.
However, let's say you get an account violation or there's an order under review, you may not be able to refer new dashers! Which is a bigger red flag for you, not referring a friend is one thing but if you get a violation and are seen as a fraudulent Dasher, that is a bigger deal in my opinion.
Doordash: How can I track the progress of my referrals?
From the referrals page, click on the “Check status” button to view your active referrals. You will be able to see how many deliveries your friends have done toward their referrals and also be able to check in on them to encourage their progress.
I like how they frame this like you could "check on them" to encourage them. Like you are never going to see them again? What the heck is that?
This is also very mircomanagement behavior as well, but more on that later
Doordash: My friend sees a different offer than the one I initially referred them under. Why might these be different?
Referral offers are refreshed weekly and may vary by geographic location. The in-progress referrals on the Referrals page reflect offers that are locked in when your friend completes their signup to be a Dasher.
In some cases, offers might get refreshed between the time you send a link and when your friend successfully becomes a Dasher.
Your friend may also see a different offer if they are located in a different city and have opted to dash there. You will both receive the bonus tied to the offer they’ve selected.
Okay that is a bunch of politically phrased nonsense, let me fix that real quick:
Doordash (BS Translated): In progress referrals on the referral page reflect the offers were actually willing to pay you not the one that we actually advertised. So if you see that your offer is showing $1,000, expect $300 if that.
Realistically we don't actually want to pay money to our drivers we just want to sucker more people in you will both receive the offers that we're willing to give you not what you actually deserve or what we told you
Risk of Deactivation
There have been many people there have been many people who have been deactivated for using a referral link in a "fraudulent way" but the reality is that those people aren't bad people and didn't use it in a fraudulent way.
DoorDash just wanted a reason to wrongfully deactivate those people. Your Driver Mike was deactivated for that specifically took him 2 and 1/2 years to be hopped on again just to be back on the platform.
I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but understand use it at your own risk.
Referral Link versus Affiliate link
A referral link is meant for your friends and family where you can send them a link directly via text or social media and you get some sort of kickback or bonus offer. Sometimes it is money or cash payment, sometimes it is credits for the referred location etc.
An affiliate link is for your business so you can post to a blog or something and you earn a kickback, almost always is a cash payment. Sometimes it even has a portal for you as well!
That way using a referral link as a affiliate link would go against the Terms and Conditions of a lot of platforms, let alone Doordash and later deactivation!
Not to mention, this time it would actually be legitimate because you're actually using it in a fraudulent way so if you're going to use it make sure you review the TOC, but either way I personally wouldn't use it if I knew I could get deactivated this way.
Your Friends are Not Like You
I have had a lot of friends who I knew way back when in New York that had no ambition at all and couldn't even do a single delivery, and had no interest in doing so even after they signed up.
The amount of 0/200's that I saw for the amount of deliveries they completed was absurd.
Now you also might be like: oh I know a lot of people that would like to make more money!
Just because they want to make more money doesn't mean they're actually going to do so. Not to mention they would rather complain about how they never have enough money to begin with, than actually do what it takes to make more money!
In some cases they're going to tear you down for doing so not going out for beers on a Friday night or whatever the case may be. Their drive is either non-existent or directed elsewhere.
In which case, you can't force the wrong people to do the right thing so don't expect them to do so.
Don't Be That Guy
Now some of you heard that signing up your friends and family can lead to you getting paid.
So you will sign up a friend that you know won't keep up with it or even done a single one, take their account and do the work for them so you could get paid the referral bonus and whatever they make.
Doordash picks up on that too easily nowadays with their verification system and this can cost you both of your accounts. So do yourself a favor don't be that guy.
Risk of Oversaturation
Some people will argue that their Market is oversaturated enough and inviting people to Dash is only going to affect their income.
This is a valid argument and should be taken under advisement. On the other hand, Doordash is going to do this anyway so this is nothing new.
So if that's the reason why the truth is your Market is probably already oversaturated, why not make money from the drivers that'll eventually sign up for Doordash anyway?
