4 Updates on UberEats - EVERYTHING You MUST Know!!

With any gig app, there are going to be updates with how the platform runs and sometimes it is for the better, in most cases it’s not. This time we got 4 updates that Uber has sent my way, in regards to UberEats and I am looking forward to talking about them.

So in this article, We are talking about:

  • What 4 updates have been made to UberEats

  • What they tell you vs how it ACTUALLY is

  • Everything in between!

I also want to be clear that everything we are going to go over is very market dependent, and what applies to me and my market may not apply to you.

Know You’ve Got the Right Order with QR Codes

To help avoid delivery mixups, we’ve added the ability to scan a QR code at select locations to confirm the order you pick up is the order you’re supposed to deliver. Simply point your phone, scan the code, and deliver with confidence.

Oh my god, they are pulling a Doordash…

So Doordash has this tendency to where they will create an update on the app, and then make a HUGE deal out of the update like it’s the best thing they have ever done. Almost like fishing for validation or something.

Uber has copied things from Doordash before but this is incredibly sad. What are they THAT afraid of losing market share?

Either way, this is actually a decent feature for those who ACTUALLY use it. I notice there are a few restaurants that use it, but I think they have to opt into it.

Enjoy an Easier Pickup Experience

You’ll now be notified when orders are ready for pickup so that you don’t lose time or need to ask restaurant staff. This feature is currently available at Chick-fil-A and expanding to other merchants soon.

I haven’t seen this myself yet, as I haven’t seen too many Chick-fil-A orders recently either but I will say this. In a lot of cases, these notifications can be nonsense because they will claim it is ready to go in the app, but then act like it is the systems fault and literally start it when you get there, it’s a common tactic restaurants have pulled to get you to the restaurant faster.

Imagine driving for a good 20 minutes someplace and the restaurant pulls that crap?

I will say this, I haven’t seen that too much today but I have 100% caught them in a lie multiple times, and it is amazing how when it goes public or when the apps crack down on them, they suddenly get their crap together?

So don’t forget to make reports on restaurants who pull that crap if you see it, and make sure to make it as loud and public as possible.

Know Where to Go After Drop Off

Avoid making a wrong turn at the start of a trip with new route previews. You’ll now see a portion of your dropoff route as you approach the pickup point, to help you never miss a turn.

First of all, it is “know where to go after pick-up”, not after drop off.

Second, this has helped me a fair amount, I think this was a solid update. No complaints.

Report Speed Enforcement

Soon you and fellow couriers will be able to report speed cameras, along with police and other speed enforcements. Once a camera is reported by a driver, other drivers approaching it will be able to see and confirm its location.

This is a feature that Google Maps and Waze both have that ALL gig apps with in-app navigation NEED! If you are going to have me use your navigation systems, then you need to keep me in the loop on what is happening on the road.

This requires participation from other gig workers, but if a gig worker can lose their gig because of a ticket, than we need to know where the police are before they can ticket us.

"You know, you could just drive safely and under the speed limit."

You should drive safely, and abide by the law, but that doesn’t stop people from trying to avoid an account notice, or a gig-worker-hating cop with ulterior motives.

Have you noticed that when an order of any kind is delivered by a police officer, it ends up in the news, like they are a goddamn hero for arresting a gig worker for something?

Nevertheless, it is a necessary tool for us.

Regardless of why they pull this crap though, that really is all it would take to get you deactivated. Which is why it is important to diversify your gig portfolio and develop an exit strategy so if something like that pops up, you have other means to make ends meet.
